Another deal on offer here. Not the best of deals but a Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook PC for just $400 is a good deal in my book. Staples has a Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook PC on sale for $400 after $147 instant rebate. This Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook is not the top of the line laptop by any means but for a web surfer and for people who doesn’t need much processing power or don’t want to play new games on it, this is a good choice. Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook is not the lightest of laptops as it weighs 5.68lbs but for $400 who cares. The regular price of Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook at staples is $546.98 but after a $147 instant rebate, the price comes down to $400. For those who want to know, here are the specifications for this Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook:
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-57 (1.90GHz) processor
- 1GB of pre-installed RAM (Expandable to upto 3GB if needed)
- 120GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
- Super Multi 8X DVD-R/RW with Double Layer Support
- 15.4″ WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen display
- NVIDIA GeForce 7000M with up to 287MB
- 802.11b/g WLAN
This Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook comes with Windows Vista OS pre-installed so I don’t think 1GB of RAM will cut it. If it were me, I would remove Windows Vista and install Windows XP. Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook has a battery that will last up to 2.5 hours depending on what you are doing. Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook comes with a 1 year warranty. The design of this Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook looks slick (better than a Vostro 1500 looking at the picture). If it were me, I would buy this laptop in an instant. I already have one (Dell Vostro 1500) so I don’t need another, otherwise I would have bought Compaq Presario F762NR Notebook. Good value for the money.

I have written a couple of posts on Dell Vostro Laptops before. Well Dell are giving away another great deal on Dell Vostro 1500 Laptops again. This time a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop would only cost $499. This Dell Vostro Laptop is almost as good as mine. I configured a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop to suit my needs before I bought it and it cost me $700 including taxes. If you purchase a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop at default configuration, it would only cost you $499. Not a bad deal if you consider the hardware inside it. Here are the default specifications for this Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop.
- Intel Core 2 Duo T5270 (1.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
- Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Works 9. Does NOT Include MS Word
- 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Anti-Glare Display
- 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
- 8X CD/DVD+RW Read and Burn CD and DVD
- 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
- 80GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
- Dell Exclusive MediaDirect Instant Play Software Application
- Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Wi-Fi Internal Card
- 56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
- 1 Year Basic Limited Warranty plus 1 Year Mail-in Service
- High Definition Audio 2.0
- Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Well this configuration has 1GB of more Ram than mine. The battery that comes with it ( 56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery ) is not that good if you plan to travel a lot with this laptop. You might want to get a 85WHr 9-Cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery. This Dell Vostro Laptop is well worth $499. I don’t regret it a bit and I have been using a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop for 6 months now. Just get a powerful battery and you are good to go. One bad point about this laptop is it is a bit on the heavy side. Other than that, if you consider the usability it is good value for the money.

Dell Vostro Series Laptops are not that great looking. From the design point of view, the Vostro series laptops looks really average. Get the one you like before the offer expires. Something quite like this happened on an HP deal last time (coupon expired before time because of large purchase). There are lot better looking laptops around but the price of the Vostro series laptops are pretty cheap. There are some cons to Vostro laptops though, they are quite bulky, heavy and the design is pretty average.

Dell has a strong line of Laptops on offer. Not as big as HP but still some of their laptops are a lot cheaper than HP’s Laptops. The design of Dell laptops are pretty basic but the hardware that comes with it is great. I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop which i bought for $700 including taxes. The design of the laptop is pretty basic (nothing to wow) but the hardware is great for that price. I am pretty satisfied with it. Dell Vostro 1500 is bit on the heavy side though.
Well Dell are selling their Vostro 1000 series laptops at a cheap price. You can get a Dell Vostro 1000 Laptop for just $419. The price applies if you don’t upgrade any hardware. The default configuration of this Dell Vostro 1000 laptop are:
- AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual-Core processor TK-57 (1.9GHz/256KB)
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic edition or Genuine Windows XP Home edition (I would suggest you get Windows XP on your system)
- 15.4″ Wide Screen XGA LCD Anti-Glare Display (You could upgrade it to a 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display with TrueLife for an extra $30)
- 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 Dimm
- 80GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
- 8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+R write capability, Cyberlink Power DVD (There are three optical drives to choose from, you can choose any on of them without adding anything extra to the price)
- ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory™ (integrated)
- Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
- 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Upgrade the primary battery to a 9 cell one (85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery). It only costs an additional $40 but trust me it will come in handy. I have the same battery and it works for 6 hours of basic internet use without pluging in to an AC outlet ( the time varies if you increase the brightness and use optical drives and hard drives). 3.5 hours if you are watching a movie on full brightness. Here is an in-depth review of Dell Vostro 1000 Laptop. It is not the perfect solution for portability as it is quite heavy but the price is just great.
