This gadget is developed by Canadian company, Research In Motion (RIM). Developed in 1999, this gadget is bit large with sophisticated and stylish design and comes with QWERTY keyboard which can be easily used using the thumb. The modern Blackberry is fitted with ARM 7 or 9 processors while the BlackBerry 950 and 957 comes with Intel 80386 processors. The most later product of BlackBerry, 8100 and 8700 series, has Intel PXA901 312 MHz processor. The latest BlackBerry is operated by multitasking OS which also supports MIDP 1.0 and WAP 1.2 while the older BlackBerry is available with Microsoft Exchange Server’s e-mail and calendar, as well as with Lotus Domino’s e-mail. The users can use e-mail services provided by the wireless provider and needn’t install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES),integral email software package with TCP/IP connectivity. The display screen in the models like 8300/8700/8800 Series have greater resolution of320×240 pixels while the models like7100/8100 Series have 240×260 pixels resolution and they displays 65K colours. The users can have choices between wide variety of ringtones between MP3, Polyphonic and MIDI ringtones. The integral Bluetooth technology helps in connecting this gadget with other Bluetooth enabled devices without wire while the USB helps in connecting the other electronic gizmos with the help of USB cable. Mostly, this handset works on networks like GSM850/900/1800/1900 and available with UMTS and 3G technology only in 8700 series. The GPRS and EDGE technology is very useful for high speed data transfer. One can get internal memory of 64 MB in this and can be expanded using microSD card. The BlackBerry measures only 50 mm×106.7 mm×14.5 mm and weights only 87.9gms. This cell phone is expected to be very useful for business personals and others too.
